Executive Director's Report

  • Thank you to Julie for hosting. Executive Director’s report. Kofi’s idea to share a meal. Say thank you to one another and reflect on a busy year. Thank you for everyone’s work this year, leadership and vision.
  • Almost 1450 graduates over the years. Plans of seniors and where they’re headed are large variety of destinations. More headed to community college for free.
  • End-of year = gateways, junior retreat, divisional trips, and Big End. Summer Orientation for new students. BGCFL summer program; 3 hrs per week for 5 weeks; science and exploration; elementary and middle school kids.
  • Enrollment looking good. In good position to be at full enrollment in the fall. Not extending offers anytime soon. Budgeted for 396. Healthy waitlist.
  • Development update. Annual goal of 250 and currently at 308. Additional 11k from gift of stock. Great event at brewery last Friday. Asked community at event to match senior class gift of 1200 and match from trustees. Total in 2500. Basket given back will be raffled off to faculty at year-end banquet. Goal of 330K for next year. Does not include courtyard gift. Fiscal year closes 6/30.
  • Diverse Teacher Pipeline task force. Marena and Pam leading charge with help from Jesse, Brian, and other faculty. Doing research about teacher pipeline overall. Had improved hiring season overall. Looked at barriers to becoming a teacher. Nationwide programs which help people become teachers. Meeting coming up and will look at variety of programs and their funding models. Some are like NTC. Over summer will put together a summary report of conversations to come back to the board with in the fall. Board and staff can decide on steps to move forward with reimagining the pipeline to Parker or pipeline to teaching in general. Sustainability vs. Impact to the sector through teacher training. Diverse pipeline to teaching from paraprofessionals and aides who need to complete education and training.
  • Summer BoT check-ins with Pam and Brian. Can be on Teams or in-person. What have you found to be rewarding about board service. What could we do better.
  • Parker Alums: Shared photos of Stef and Pam’s children graduating from college.

III. CEO Evaluation

A.

CEO Evaluation

CEO Evaluation. Highlights from evaluation shows in general results are consistent with last year. Integrity, communication, and reliable. Feedback regarding org change going smoothly. Fundraising, enrollment, and persistence around salary parody. Growth areas reflected by Board and Brian were areas we didn’t spend time on or have clarity towards. Teacher pipeline, Sizer Center, proven student outcomes. Gives sense of direction for areas to focus on. Process wise first year with new tools of jotform and survey. Shorter and more relevant questions. Progress with tool and now looking for more progress with evaluation cycle. Option of no rating: not Brian’s job or not enough evidence. Work through ideas on how to approach this in the future. Still hear from some people about why Brian is being rated on some areas where it is not a clear part of his job. Reality is it’s Brian’s job to make sure those things are done and is ultimately responsible for the job of others getting done well. Congratulations on a positive year during a year of change. Brian expressed appreciation of the process and efforts of team. Ellen acknowledged the large amount of change.

IV. Other Business

A.

Comments from the Public

Elyse mentioned the SEPAC is looking forward to communicating more with the board. Want to fill their role more effectively. Update next year with SEPAC, special education, and principal. SEPAC is trying to meet more regularly. Zoom and in-person. Board could send representative to SEPAC meetings to keep board better connected to SEPAC. Ice Cream social – SEPAC was present to introduce themselves as well as PPCC.
