K. Boyer called a meeting of the board of directors of Wesley International Academy to order on Tuesday Dec 5, 2023 at 6:02 PM.

Select ED Goals Subcommittee

K. Jones made a motion to approve goal subcommittee Adrian Hunter, Ewa Cater and Kate Boyer.

III. Executive Director Updates

A.

School Safety Survey Data

ED opens up with annoucing the Wesley Fun Run raised over $30k

Chili Cookoff and Literacy Night was very successful .

 

Completed Gym Renovation and Audio for Auditorium.

We had a very successful audit.

Attendance has been up to 98% with teachers.

parent comment,  If  this makes the shool safer 

100 % needs to be done regardless of parental concern

I know its for the kids safety 

Metal detecors ae necessay measure but how do we balance and

Not necesscary and make some children more anxious 

 

Staff in favor: 24 responses

I want to feel safe at work 

Whatever Wesley needs to do I will support it

 

With caution:

Wands would be great  not metal detectors, they might make the  school seem safe

 

Against

I think it would make things more serious.  I dont think it ncessary for kindergarten.

 

Ewa Cater ask,   did we have more responses than usual?

Usually about half of parents respond to surveys .

 

 

We  use other resources for safety,  drills, education etc

Secruity is brought up often in family tours.

Companies being considered are Open Gate, Garrett, Evolve.

 

Kate Boyer   would like to get feedback from schools using it.

Implementation and roll out with other schools .

 

What is time frame?

Vote in April and install in summer.

 

 

 

 

 

IV. Governance

A.

Enrollment Updates

Enrollment  review common application

762 enrollment 

Tours have started most popular questions.

Student ratio, curriculum and secruity. 

 

B.

Recruitment of New Board Members

Mazie-Lynn and Ewa and Kwende to start on  recruitment.

If anyone knows of someone that would be interested in being a Wesley Board Meeting

ask them to join a Governance Meeting.

C.

Governance Role for Move in 2025

Hold discussion until we  get more information from APS.

V. Academics

A.

Attendance and Discipline Updates

94.5 % attendance rate

Repeated referrals down from 7 to 2 students

Make sure all teachers are on the same page before referrals are made.

Training for new teachers .

Teachers meet with their assigned mentors.

MYP referrals  cut in half from last year.

B.

Overview of STEM and Additional Language

Takes 3 to 5 year for STEM certification 

70% of students going to a school that does not offer mandrian

 

 

 

VI. Finance

A.

Brief Update of Financials (July-October 2023)

Clean audit no surprises.

Bamo  (Accountant) gave Wesley a clean audit.

Great job by CFO and Business Manager

 

 

 

 

 

B.

Summary of Audit

Financials are good up to October .

Closing out Novemeber before holiday break.

Revision for 2023 Financials will be in January.

 

 

 

C.

Update 2023 Budget Revision (Enrollment and Staff Stipend Program)

Revision will be done for the next Finance Meeting.

D.

2024 4 Year Plan / Cash Flow Projections

Is a work in progress 

VII. Executive Session

A.

New Contracts

K. Jones made a motion to To approve the two employment contracts for the new teachers hired mid year discussed during executive session.
E. Cater seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

B.

Leadership Staffing Discussion

S. Williams made a motion to Approve the third draft of the Executive Director's Contract as presented during Executive Session.
G. Burnett seconded the motion.
