II. Academic Excellence

A.

Attendance Action Plan

Wesley has experienced chronic absenteeism since Covid. 

 

Wesley wants everyone to get back in the habit of  attending school,

by educating parents the importance of attendance: 

 

  • September has been attendance awareness month.
  • 70 parents attended community meeting about attendance .
  • Students are recognized at the end of every month for their grade level  competitions.
  • Incentives for teachers in taking attendance, making referrals and making phone calls.
  • Overall attendance rate has been at 93% last year,  for August and September rate is up 2% (95%).
  • Staff training on how absenteeism impacts CCRPI, taking attendance every period (MYP)

Committee Goal Setting

Pavone Highlighting:

  • Summer School : to enrich students  learning experience and have a summer camp feel.
  • 55 students attended and 16 teachers participated. 
  • Courses offered were: Chinese, Fun with Phonics,  Graphics Design, Home Economics, Marketing, Tennis, Project Girl, Camp Discovery and Baby Ballers.

 

Discipline:

  • In 2021-22  school year  124 documented violent incidents in MYP, in 2022-23 school yeardown to 70(44%).  Improvement of classroom management and training on day to day practices has helped bring incidents down.

 

Attendance:

  • Gayle  would like to compare our attendance with district. 
  • Rachel will give data on the effects of attendance on half days.

 

Academics:

  • Increase MAP Proficiency in Math and Reading by 3%.
  • 2-8 grade Reading in spring 2023, 31%  Proficient. 
  • 2-8 grade Math in spring 2023 , 30% Proficient.
  • STEM Training Goals, 80% of staff hit monthly training goal.
  • Wesley begins a 2-3 year plan to obtain STEM certification as a school.

G. Burnett seconded the motion.
