Dr. Miles previewed October events, including:
* First Friday in October (10/2).

* Fall Fun Fest (moved to Fri 10/23).   Dr. Miles said she would send specific information about this event to the Board.

* Book Fair at Parent Teacher Conferences (10/28 & 10/29).

Ms. Rios reminded Board that the Board's goal is for each Member to attend at least two events during the year.

VI. Old Business

A.

Potential Board Member Conflict of Interest

Dr. Miles shared that, in the scope of her practice, Ms. Bond has begun working with Cornerstones for Care.  Since they are a vendor of the school, Ms. Bond highlighted a potential conflict of interest and further discussed the situation with legal counsel.  They unfortunately confirmed that, according to charter law, the situation does present a conflict; therefore, Ms. Bond submitted her resignation from the Board earlier today (9/22/26).

Ms. Rios shared appreciation for Ms. Bond's service and said she would love to formally celebrate Ms. Bond.  Dr. Miles is working on a dinner or happy hour and will send a poll.

Dr. Miles recapped that, going forward, the Executive Committee requested a "first read" of any new policies during the first month, then intentional time to discuss/research/question, then a "second read" during the second month's meeting to actually approve the policies.

From that approach, Dr. Miles presented and gave a first read of the following new policies:

  • Employee Handbook:  District Travel Credit Card Checkout
  • Family Handbook:  Late Student Pickup

She also presented and gave a first read of the following updates to existing policies:

  • Employee Handbook:  Employee Classification
