Operating Norms
WSSDA Consultant Patty Wood led the Board in a discussion surrounding Operating Principles. A draft of principles will be created and brought forward for additional discussion at the May 4th Board Work Study.

Review Superintendent Evaluation Process/Forms
WSSDA Consultant Patty Wood led the Board in a discussion surrounding process and form options for annual and mid-year superintendent evaluations.
IV. Superintendent Search Update
A.
Northwest Leadership Associates
Wayne Robertson from Northwest Leadership Associates shared with the Board of Directors common threads from the March Focus Groups, online survey information received to date, and updated them on the current recruiting process. Mr. Robertson discussed preparations and processes with the Board for screening applicants and reviewed the draft of preliminary interview questions.
V. ESD Elementary #6 Update

Elementary #6
Director of Business Kyle Fletcher and Director of Operations Phil Engebretsen shared poster renderings of Elementary School #6 with the Board. They updated the Board on decisions being made by the Design Advisory Committee, completed work and upcoming processes for the Naming Committee, and the work of the Project Oversight Committee.
VI. ESD Commitments
A.
Literacy Proficiency by Grade 3 and Algebraic Reasoning by Grade 9
Director of Teaching and Learning Lindsey Marquardt and Assistant Director of Teaching and Learning Lea Tiger Tice shared samples of current student achievement data from winter assessments with the Board. They reviewed student growth percentiles and discussed the purpose of assessments to inform instruction, decisions, and initiatives.
Superintendent Jill Burnes led board members and cabinet members in an opening activity. She shared with the group the Learning Targets for the day. Superintendent Burnes encouraged the Board to think about their individual "why" and their collective "why." Data was shared from a 2015 report, The School Cliff Report showing a downward trend of student engagement from grades through twelve. It was shared that this data has not significantly changed over the past 12 years. Superintendent Burnes shared a video by Ted Dintersmith titled, Prepare our Kids for Life, Not Tests.
