Call the Meeting to Order

Shannon Rutledge called a meeting of the board of directors of Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School to order on Thursday Apr 17, 2025 at 6:32 PM.

Approve Meeting Minutes from 3-20-25

Rebecca Wagner made a motion to approve the minutes from Governing Board Monthly Meeting on 03-20-25.
Cory Tiede seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

II. School Leadership Updates

A.

Spotlight Area: ANCS PTCA

Wakita Jacob’s gave an update on the PTCA. 5 grants awarded totaling $5000. Black History Month celebration, MC outdoor table/chairs, kindergarten parent cafe, EC farm outdoor seating, soul food cypher workshop. 

 

Upcoming events include: Bingo Night, Run with the Wolves, PTCA Picnic and Chorus Concert.

 

MC co-president role is open (parent).

Principals' Open Forum

Mark Sanders (MC) - wrapped up Women's History Month celebration. Final administrative observations. 8th graders getting ready for 8th grade exhibitions. Milestones testing coming up. Savannah trip for 8th graders in mid May. 6th/7th grade exhibitions in mid May.

 

Lara Zelski (EC) - Women’s History Month celebration, fifth graders getting grade day trip, teacher appreciation week. Last benchmark training focused on assembly, CPR & First Aid training for teachers. Looking forward: Book Fair and Book Character Parade, Wolf Pup Round Up on 4/26. Milestones testing starting 4/28, annual performance reviews, portfolio shares, field day, end of year celebrations.

Executive Director's Monthly Report

Accepted a math award today. Good Day Atlanta did an interview on the farm for Charter School of the Year today. 

 

Offered 126 contracts to staff. 97% retention rate. Last year, there were 136 contracts offered, so reducing staff a bit. Hiring 1-2 new people for the fall.

 

Enrollment: similar to where we were this time last year, both for overall enrollments and ED enrollments.

 

New partnerships: RedefinED/TNTP Survey, Oakland Cemetery, Adair Park Neighbors/Sylvan Middle (farm program)

Form 990 email went out March 31. Send Oriol any questions.

Advancement Committee Monthly Report

Starting tomorrow (4/19) it’s Giving Week. We’re short of our FY25 goal and asking the community to come together. Extended Field Day for the grade with the most recurring donations.

D.

Governance Committee Monthly Report

ED’s annual evaluation will go out next week, please get done by May 9.

Rebecca Wagner made a motion to Accept the slate of nominees for board officers for the 2025-2026 school year.
Drew Waddell seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.
