Call the Meeting to Order

Hanah Goldberg called a meeting of the Educational Excellence Committee of Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School to order on Thursday Mar 5, 2020 at 5:23 PM.

Approve Minutes

Jason Rhodes made a motion to approve the minutes from Educational Excellence Committee Meeting on 02-06-20.
Eric Teusink seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED to approve the motion.

II. Educational Excellence

Charter Renewal Update

  • Letter of intent filed 2/28
  • 5 years requested
  • Upcoming meetings:
    • 3/6 APS Office of Innovation, GCSA re: attendance zone 
    • 3/9 GOSA
    • 3/19 ANCS CFO
    • 3/23 ANCS Leadership Team

Application/Lottery Update

  • 860 total applications (779 City of Atlanta)
    • 104 Grant Park
    • 50 Ormewood Park
    • 16 Summerhill
  • 194 economically disadvantaged (13 in Zone 1; 7 of those rising K or 6)
  • Chuck Meadows to prepare additional data cuts for 3/17 board meeting

Attendance Data Review

  • Clarification regarding definitions and thresholds:
    • CCRPI is based on % of students absent less than 10% of enrolled days
    • GOSA
      • defines chronic absenteeism as a student missing 10 percent or more of enrolled days
      • reports the percentage of students absent 0 to 5 days, 6-15 days, and more than 15 days 
      • utilizes the following criteria for indicator rankings:
        • Exemplary: 5% or less absent more than 15 days
        • Acceptable: Greater than 5% but less than 15% of students absent more than 15 days
        • Unacceptable: 15% or more of students absent more than 15 days
  • 2019-2020 ANCS Attendance (as of 3/4)
    • EC: 225 absent 3 days or more
    • MC: 131 absent 3 days or more 
  • This year/coming months anomalous given COVID-19 precautions
  • Future efforts to communicate, monitor attendance
    • Beginning-of-year communication re: expectations
    • Continue to include attendance data on progress reports, report cards
    • Add section to EC Conference Form to include tardies/absences
    • Shared expectations regarding threshold (e.g., 6 vs. 10%, etc.)
    • Direct communication to families next school year when student absences exceed threshold

Potential Changes to Attendance Zone/Lottery

Board updated on general discussion/considerations at February board meeting. Additional updates will be available following meeting with APS, GCSA on 3/6 as well as feedback from legal counsel. 

E.

Data Dashboard/Improvement Plan and Priorities for 2020-2021

The school is implementing a variety of strategies to support learners, including additional Saturday School sessions, Morning Intervention, and a revision to AGP. The committee discussed how it can monitor the impact of these strategies using disaggregated MAP and progress report data.
