Director Krotzer arrived late.

During the study session, the Board continued its review of Board governance policies to ensure the policies remain clearly written, concise, and aligned with the Board's governance framework and monitoring responsibilities.
 

The Board reviewed Executive Requirement ER-2 (Organizational Continuity and Executive Succession) and discussed opportunities to streamline the policy by removing redundant language and simplifying wording while maintaining the policy's intent regarding leadership continuity, emergency preparedness, and succession planning. 
 

The Board also reviewed Ends Policy E-2 (Student Success) and Ends Policy E-5 (Responsible Citizens). As part of its ongoing policy governance review, the Board discussed consolidating the two policies by incorporating the key elements of Responsible Citizens into the Student Success policy. The Board expressed support for eliminating Policy E-5 as a standalone policy and revising Policy E-2 to more clearly reflect the Board's expectations for student success, citizenship, character development, and social responsibility. The Board also discussed rewording portions of the combined policy to improve clarity, readability, and consistency for future Board members and stakeholders. 

The Board will continue refining the proposed revisions and anticipates bringing the updated policies forward for future review and consideration.

The next regular school board meeting will be held on August 24, 2026 at 6:30pm at the NMSD Administration Office Boardroom. The board will be holding a study session on September 14, 2026 at 6 pm at the NMSD Administration Office Boardroom.
