II. Academic Achievement
A.
Academic Data Review
- 6th, 7th, & 8th grade math data ready for this year for the end of year state tests, but not for ELA yet (may not have until a few more months).
- Over time more of our students are scoring 2+ or higher (closer to proficiency)
- In year 1, we had a 5% proficiency rating in math, in year 2 (6th & 7th) that went up to almost 9%, and in year 3, we went up to almost 16%; we have almost doubled proficiency rates each year
- From 6th grade to 8th grade, our founding class jumped from 5% to 21% proficiency in math
- Out of the students that took algebra in 8th grade (26 students), almost all of them scored 2 or higher.
- 8th graders took science & social studies exams this year (first time we've done these so no historical data), and 49% scored 2 or higher in science & 72% scored 2 or higher in social studies
- Go to CCRPI website if interested in how we compare to local schools. After doing a quick comparison against 2 schools, we may be lower just in the "3 or higher" category in social studies.
- Question to think about: if social studies proficiency is lower, can we look at ELA trends since that is a foundational subject for social studies? Perhaps many scored a 2 because the reading comprehension is there but maybe not the 3 because of the missing social studies content.
B.
Academic (Assessment) Calendar
- All assessments have happened and we've shared data on most of them (except STAMP - Spanish proficiency exam).
- Did a quick review of STAMP data on call.
- Highest performing cohorts are 8th graders on average right now; they've had longer time in Spanish at TAS
- Current 8th grade teacher will move back down to 6th grade and work with them each year again.
- Any makeup state tests will be happening next Wednesday and hopefully we will have another update by this month's board meeting. Then we may have updated scores to share.
C.
Bell Schedule Options
- Final decision has been made on bell schedule.
- Minor changes to last version:
- advisory moving back to beginning of day
- allowing 10 minutes between each lunch wave
- school start day is at 8:00am instead of 8:30am
III. Academic Monitoring Updates
A.
Enrollment Dates
- Enrollment is going well and we reached the biggest milestone to meet the budget for 345 students; we currently have 356 seats claimed out of about 380 that were offered/pending.
- We have 6 more seats to offer for 6th, 1 more seat to offer for 7th, and a waitlist for 8th & 9th.
B.
Enrollment policy discussion
- Monthly item, but no updates at this time.
C.
SCSC Renewal Rubric Resource
- Monthly item, but no updates at this time.
- To note: We do need to be outperforming schools around us academically for SCSC evaluation, and it's looking that way with our quick look at 2 nearby schools.
D.
2024-2025 Academic CPF Report
- New CPF rating not yet available.
- We want CCRPI (from state) to be above 70% ideally, and also SCSC calculation gives the CPF comparative data to other schools at a later date.
- We also got our school climate rating from last year and got a 4.7/5 rating:
- parent survey (5)
- teacher survey (5)
- student survey (5)
- student attendance (4)
IV. Academic Policy Items
A.
TAS Teacher Pathway Framework
- This is a finance committee item for now, but let's leave on the agenda until fully resolved
B.
Annual Family Handbook Review
- This week, the board will be sent a final copy of fiscal policy, staff handbook, and family handbook for review.
V. Closing Items
A.
Succession Planning
- Holdover from governance committee, but let's try to keep the prospective board members as engaged as we can and invite them to the June board meeting.
B.
Adjourn Meeting
There being no further business to be transacted, and upon motion duly made, seconded and approved, the meeting was adjourned at 7:53 PM.
Respectfully Submitted,
K. Sargeant
