Call the Meeting to Order

S. Hood called a meeting of the board of directors of RePublic Schools to order on Thursday Aug 29, 2019 at 11:08 AM.

Approve Minutes

W. Caldwell made a motion to approve minutes from the RePublic Schools June Board Meeting on 06-27-19 RePublic Schools June Board Meeting on 06-27-19.
R. Corbin seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

II. CEO Updates

A.

CMO Leadership Shifts

Shared Ashley Gallimore changing to CTO. Talent team is stronger than it has ever been.
Still have a COO position available.

Staff Update

CEO reviewed changes in roles on the CMO team
98% hired by the first day of school

C.

Student Enrollment Update

CEO shared update on enrollment in Nashville and Jackson. 
Board discussed the best way to serve the students we have committed to serving.
50% / 50% on student enrollments between Nashville and Jackson.
Smilow Collegiate is the second largest elementary school in Jackson.
Reimagine Prep is the largest middle school in Jackson.

III. Committee Reports

Governance Committee

CEO evaluation almost complete.
Governance chair met with Riney to discuss bylaws and updates.
Welcome Walker Morrow to board.
Governance chair discusses Board member recruitment and current membership.

Academics Committee

Finance Committee

RSI and RSN finished with a surplus.
Smilow & 3rd floor of RHS funded out of operation funds.
3 bus routes cancelled.
Board discusses MS in the bottom 10 for per pupil support. TN falls in the middle for per pupil support.

IV. School Academic Performance

A.

Academic Results from 2018-2019

CAO presents:
  • MAP and ACT scores are our Northstar and state tests are important
  • Last year was the first time we had priorities.
    • Text-Driven Literacy Instruction: adoption of new curriculum. Every student received books and were allowed to keep them.
    • Warm + Demanding Classrooms: focused on the culture of the classroom and the school. Learning was happening from the beginning of the year.
  • MAP: strongest predictor and is correlated to ACT and SAT
  • Reviewed TNReady data for Math and English for NACS, LCA, and NP
  • Reviewed EOC results for RHS in English, Math, and US History
  • Reviewed MAAP data for Math, English, and Science for ReImagine Prep and Smilow Prep
  • Reviewed Kindergarten Readiness Assessment for Smilow Collegiate
  • Priorities for this year:
    • Preparing for Intellectual Engagement
    • Seen, Valued, and Pushed at RePublic High School

The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.
