Call the Meeting to Order

E. Chen called a meeting of the Education Committee of Nuasin Next Generation Charter School to order on Wednesday Jul 21, 2021 at 3:14 PM.

Approve Minutes

Motion to approve the minutes from Education Committee Monthly Call on 05-19-21.
The committee VOTED to approve the motion.

II. Education

A.

K-8

- 20 daily circle practice - using summer as the opportunity to learn and proof of concept
- 30 min daily deep dive into math problems and discourse amongst students
- July is planning month (almost done with math) - started math scheduling (number stories)
- Expanding humanities (bringing it to the lower grades) w/ Lavinia group
- Designing for professional development for teachers in August
- Mind-sets and expectation for learning and behavior/ true learning
- New leaders joining (HS and middle school)
- planning for ELA instructions as a whole 
- ~120 students daily in person

B.

Malik

CPA: new curriculum for math and science; need to work on ELA
Focus on solid instructions for classes offered and adult culture
- summer school for students who are required to attend for credits for graduation are good
- goal to increase connectivity in HS; need to know what each student is doing for the summer and plan for future

- Beginning and end session (Aug 5/6th) for k-8 for summer school diagnostic 
- CPA is different in assessment 
- SAT preparation count is less than expected

A.

Anuj: what are we going to do differently for summer school next year?

Malik: continue to think about what is needed in the community and for our students; SAT and ACT concept is strong, need to communicate to parents early (maybe weekend or night prep courses)
Anuj: segmenting students from the group - credit recovery (APEX), class retake, and SAT/ ACT prep
Constance: night options/ enrichment FYEP sites to partner with other
