Annual Compass Scholarship Program Update

E. Brenner spoke about the $500 Rising Firebird scholarship opportunity for 2024.  There will be 3 recipients, one from each charter - Los Angeles, San Diego, and Yolo.  The Scholarship opportunity will be announced in Monday's MMU, and the deadline will be April 12, 2024.

The next meeting will be changed to May 10th, so the recipients can be chosen and announced in time to be included in the Board of Directors meeting scheduled May 18.

B.

Annual Survey Review

E. Brenner presented slides summarizing the parent and scholar responses from the Annual Survey.   Compass received 466 parents responses.  This was short of our 900 goal, but a higher response than we've received in the past.

Discussion topics included how students are able to prioritize mental health, advantages of flexible schedules, a desire to include more books for extra reading,  and an interest in increasing social interaction through events such as park days.  One parent suggested that parent volunteers could help make social interaction events more feasible.

C.

Virtual Parent Suggestion Box responses

Members discussed responses submitted by other parents through the virtual parent suggestion box.  Topics included a request for for ST informational videos, difficulties in signing up for popular field trips, and issues with last-minute changes to the ordering process and deadlines.

D.

High School Activities

Members discussed an interest in field trips that would be more engaging to high school students. Ideas included park days and field trips specific to high schoolers, ways to identify families that live close together, and the need to find ways to reach out to families that don't live as close to other families.
