Approval of the February 14, 2023 Regular Meeting Minutes

T. Saurer made a motion to approve the minutes from Scholar Leadership Council Meeting on 02-14-23.

Scholar Leader Council Member Recruitment Discussion

Kimberly Aguilar, Community Relations Coordinator in Administration, joined the Scholar Leadership Council meeting for a discussion on scholar recruitment for the S.L.C. (ideas to brainstorm, ideation with the SLC in general), what is on the horizon, and more.

Staff Report

Ms. Brenner provided the staff report. Ms. Brenner asked the council to share out what experiences at Compass have helped the scholars build community and connect with other fellow scholars. 

 

  • Experiences mentioned 
    • Joining clubs and meetings.
    • The flexibility of the different programs.
    • Talking to the teachers.
    • Attending class.
    • There is always someone there to help and support you in anything you need. Whether it is with your classes, needing some extra guidance, or just wanting to meet new people.
    • Physical fitness test day.
    • Meeting fellow scholars through different community providers.
    • Vendors.
    • Using the Chat in Zoom.
    • Playing online games with other scholars.
    • Club meetings more than once a month.
    • Virtual field trips.
    • Field trip recordings for Compass YouTube channel.
    • Pre-recorded lessons(Martial arts etc).
    • eSports competition or league for students that are also in younger grades than high school.
    • Yoga and tai chi online sessions for PE requirements.
    • A mentorship program for scholars.
    • Guest speakers
    • Career day guest events
    • Virtual Guest Speaker Day once a week!
    • Prizes and coupons for events
    • Talent Show
    • Contests on art, writing, essay, poems, photography, ect. 
    • Field trips in more different cities
