T. Saurer called a meeting to order on Tuesday Dec 13, 2022 at 2:07 PM.

Online Learning Program Discussion

Janae Smith, Director of Online Learning in Online Program Academic Services, joined the Scholar Leadership Council meeting for a discussion on the Online Learning Program.

Mrs. Smith discussed and shared with the council what makes the program unique and special, what is new for scholars this year, where the SLC can be used to support the Online Learning Program (ideas to brainstorm, ideation with the SLC in general), and what is on the horizon. She also shared an overview of the Online Learning Leadership team, Online Elementary school team, Online Middle school team, and the Online High school team.

Mrs. Smith also welcomes the council to reach out to the Coordinators when they have a question. Mrs. Smith gave an overview of the Online Learning WIG Lead Measures, Online Personalized Learning Plan, Learning Coach (LC) responsibilities, scholar expectations, and the Learning Labs at Compass.

 

Tia mentioned: The engagement with scholars has been working very well.

Tia asked: Can options scholars also attend the Q&A sessions?

Mrs. Smith mentioned that Learning Labs are recorded.

Tia asked: May I come in for additional help in algebra?

Mrs. Smith mentioned that the Online and Options coordinator can come up with a plan to expand the Q&A sessions. 

Avery asked: I wanted to know if there is a music class

Mrs. Smith mentioned that Compass offers a class in middle school and that Compass but would like to come up with more ideas for classes and club opportunities. 

Tia mentioned: coursera and edx as resources.

The Council will hold elections on January 2023.

V. Reports

A.

Staff Report

Mr. Lewis led the council in an overview of the Staff Report. The Board of Directors selected Elizabtehr Brenner as the new CEO and Superintendent on January 3, 2023.

Mr. Lewis welcomed Elizabeth Brenner.

PBS Socal and Compass is working on marketing and is looking for testimonials for this year. Mr. Lewis mentioned that Compass is currently in a reaccreditation phase with a self-study which is a reflective journey on Compass. Monday, Jan 30 - Feb 1st will be Winter break as well as a WASC visit with families, scholars, and staff where scholars will be invited to share Compass news.

Virtual Coffee with the Superintendent and CEO will be this Friday, December 16, 2022.

Compass is also having a virtual fundraiser with Panda Express for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Friday, December 16, 2022.

Review & Discuss Annual Scholar Survey

Mr. Lewis mentioned the survey results will be ready to be reviewed by the Council in January and February.

The next Scholar Leadership Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 10 at 2 pm.

 

The next Board of Directors Meeting will be held on Saturday, January 28 at 10 am.
