IV. Reports

A.

Staff Report

Mr. Lewis led the council in a overview of the Staff Report. He mentioned that we hosted Parent Town Halls which are Q&A sessions for all families. Adventure to Fitness is a new free subscription to fitness resources for online elementary and options program scholars, and were shared in the MMU. ThinkingStorm is a new offering to tutoring resources for online middle and high school scholars, providing up to 10 hours tutoring support for free.Mr. Lewis also mentioned that re-enrollment opens on March 1st. A 'Proud Scholar' t-shirt will be sent to all scholars who complete the re-enrollment process by Friday, March 16th.

V. Unfinished Business

A.

Discussion on Communication & Engagement Initiatives

The council decided to have a deeper dive on the survey, which covered Communication and Engagement Initiatives.

B.

Review and Discussion of Scholar Leadership Council Survey

Ms. Gordon mentioned that she found the feedback on the survey to be very surprising.

Ms. Christopher shared that aside from the slight negativity, there were very positive results, and was actually surprised at how far scholars are willing to go (time, money, etc) to engage and have fun. She was also happily surprised that the scholars found the Monday Morning Updates as helpful as she does. Ms. Christopher suggested that perhaps asking scholars and parents for suggestions in their local areas would help with field trip planning, and believes that we should make each field trip educational and fun, not just one or the other. For example, going to Knott's Berry Farm would be fun but would also give scholars an education on California history.

Ms. Zorba found the survey to be helpful, and glad to now know the opinions and responses of scholars. She also strongly believes that we should listen to all the great feedback.

VI. New Business

A.

Council Member Feedback

The council covered the 2018-19 academic year breaks and semester dates. The council suggested to have Compass Field Trips throughout the state and have work exempted for the day.
