Parent Survey Discussion with StrongMind

Krysten Novak and Shannon Brown from the StrongMind Learner-Centered Design Research Team joined the Parent Advisory Council meeting. They will be assisting the PAC in crafting the parent survey on academics, communication, and engagement.

Council members are interested in the length and content of the Monday Morning Update, whether communication alerts should be sent via text message, the types and locations of field trips, whether or not distance is a factor in attending or if the chaperone requirement is limiting participation, and how effective the Community section of the PSP is in terms of building relationships and talking with peers.

Council members also discussed the learning style, length, and content of learning labs and Q&A sessions.

Mr. Lewis shared an overview of what role learning labs play in terms of scholar support. The learning labs are used as a supplemental tool for scholars. Recordings have to be available due to the flexibility of Independent Study.

The StrongMind team took notes and will craft sample questions for the Council to consider asking. They will complete further research for the survey. The goal for the survey will be to further understand scholar and parent experiences, and opinions of the curriculum. They appreciated the opportunity to learn more about Compass and to be part of the project.
