Staff Report

Mr. Lewis shared the rebranding process that was approved by the Board of Directors during their January 21, 2016 Special Meeting. Staff have been moving forward with the rebrand for the organization, and are recommending Compass Charter Schools as the new name starting March 1. The Board of Directors will vote on final approval at their January 30, 2017 in-person meeting. He also shared dates and times for our Graduation Week events in June, for our 8th Grade Promotion Ceremonies and Class of 2017 Commencement Ceremonies.  Information was also shared on the revised Track Calendars, and that another revision would be sent next week with dates for the final round of i-Ready Diagnostic Testing.

IV. New Business

A.

Review of PAC Survey Results

Ms. Robotham led the Council on a review of the PAC Survey Results.  Big areas were on the Suggestion Box, where over half of our families were not aware of the opportunity to engage AAS, and field trip participation, where families were interested in attending but have not been participating.  Communication options was also a focus, with families preferring eMail over social media and ParentSquare, though they still used both for information.  Also happy with the level of interest by families to serve on the PAC.

Discussions on how to plan and promote field trips focused on creating experiences near scholars based on a heat map.  How to better promote, perhaps using PAC testimonials and chaperoning events.

B.

Review of 2017-18 Updates & Registration Process

Mr. Lewis provided updates on the changes being made for the 2017-18 school year (during the Staff Report).  Staff are currently in their 2017 Professional Development Day training, learning about our new curriculum provider for middle and high school: StrongMind.  AAS will host Parent Town Halls in mid-February to share information on the new curriculum, which was approved by the AAS Board of Directors in November, changes to graduation requirements, and the rebranding efforts.  Registration will open on March 20 for the upcoming school year, with a t-shirt promotion for families who enroll that week.  More information on the rebrand was also shared, including process for the name change and mascot change.

C.

The Parent Advisory Council requests Miguel Aguilar reach out to the interested candidates and ask them to submit a resume for the Council to review for its February meeting.
