Kindezi Academy Update
Kevin reported the highlights for the launch of the 18-19 school year.
Cody reported that teachers are internalizing on a high level plan.
- Kevin provided the board members with a 2018-2019 NCN Dashboard. It is a snapshot of the schools to highlight the schools.
- Enrollment for Enlace was budgeted at 480 at there is currently 489 students enrolled.
- Enrollment for Kindezi was budgeted at 395 and is currently at 390.
- This was the first year where enrollment was unified through Enroll Indy. Although there were some concerns due to glitches along the way both schools have had consistent enrollment.
- There will be more academic data by the next board meeting.
- Both schools are focusing on the Wildly Important Goals. The classrooms are all engaged in high quality teaching and learning. They are both using high quality curriculum that aligns standards and tasks to rigor.
- Teachers are having weekly data meetings to sort through the data and reteach appropriately.
- This school year a lot of time was spent bringing both schools together for professional development. The purpose was to help teachers build bonds and support each other across the schools.
- There is currently 107 employees and around 900 students across the network. Due to the aggressive growth a new full time HR manager has been hired.
- Enlace will be launching a program with City Connects thanks to Marian who included Enlace in a grant. It is a family engagement program and the hope is to extend the program to Kindezi in the future.
- Indy 11 provided Enlace with a futsal court. This drew the attention of a program in Zionsville to run a high quality soccer club at Enlace for free. Their main goal is to target underprivileged kids. They will launch a soccer program in the fall.
- The largest grade level is 5th grade. Due to this a split class with high performing 5th graders was started.
- The staff spent two weeks with intense summer pd training. Staff used that time to plan standards and work on culture.
- Uniform compliance has been a huge improvement.
- There was a strong start to implementing systems and routines. Teachers have minute by minute plans. They are continuing to build culture areas that need improvement.
Cody reported that teachers are internalizing on a high level plan.
- Application deadlines for high are coming up so a high school fair is in the works. Support will be provided to the families.
- Angela Barlow from the Oaks academy will be training our parent liaison to best connect students
IV. Finance
A.
Finance
Terry reported that the budget was approved at the last meeting.
- Items to keep a close eye on are watching enrollment and the administrative relationship with IPS, and facility needs for the future.
- There are no major changes to the budget.
- The schools finished with 156 days of cash on hand.
- Both schools performed well last year.
- Enlace has paid off $100,000 of the loan while Kindezi has repaid $25,000.
- The board would like to keep an eye on Kindezi. There will be expenses for Kindezi down the road to keep in mind. Kindezi operates at a higher per student than Enlace.
- At the next board meeting Dennis would like a discussion on the Kindezi financial structure and how it differs from Enlace. A comparison of the revenues and expenses at both schools. The staffing at Kindezi is more expensive to address due to the challenges of a restart model.
