Call the Meeting to Order

S. Schroeck called a meeting of the Whole Child Committee of Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy to order on Tuesday Feb 23, 2021 at 10:30 AM.

II. Whole Child

Did you know

The "Did you know?" Facebook posts are completed and ready to go through the first week of March. The March theme is Twice Exceptional.

Eagle Vision Awards

The Eagle Vision Awards are underway. All homeroom teachers are participating. The Grades 5-6 team is especially enthusiastic.

Grandpeople Day

The Development Committee will get a google registration form created and sent out to parents (to be distributed to Grandpeople) by the first week of April. Responses will be received in time for classroom teachers to plan online events, request volunteer help if needed, and distribute Zoom links.

 

Karen P. has volunteered to coordinate parent volunteers.

Out of the Box Ideas/Brainstorming

Ms. Pieper clarified that this agenda item could be to brainstorm ideas to assist not only individual SA students, but also the whole community. Potential topics include:
School wide service learning with parents involved.
New ideas for community events
Multicultural event
Engaging students in low-level activism and techniques in persuasion.

 

Members shared that they have seen indications that students want to tackle difficult topics.

 

Involvement of Student Leadership Team was suggested and Ms. Pieper informed the committee that the Student Leadership Team has three groups doing different service learning projects.

 

One resource that was mentioned was "The Global Goals" which has 12 or so goals with lessons within.

 

The idea of an anonymous google form for students to reach out to counselors or admin about non-life-threatening concerns like bullying, cyber-bullying was discussed.

 

The idea of bringing parents and/or alumni to school for a school-wide SEL run by counselors to discuss bullying or conflict resolution when the school is no longer locked-down to visitors was brought up.

 

Sarah will reach out to Ms. Phelps and Ms. Jenkins regarding the potential of a google form as discussed.
