Call the Meeting to Order

S. Schroeck called a meeting of the Whole Child Committee of Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy to order on Tuesday Oct 27, 2020 at 10:30 AM.

II. SEL Outline Document discussion

A.

Communication Plan

School-based, grade-level SEL curriculum is already communicated to parents through the website and Teacher pages.
Topics regarding the Social-Emotional overexcitabilities and other issues facing gifted learners will be communicated in short Facebook posts via a weekly "Did you know?" posting that will include links to articles online or portions of the Scholars Academy Website. S. Schroeck, K. Pietrafesa, A. Gozycki, and N. Zagorski will collaborate on a slate of posts. A. Pieper will approve the posts in several week "chunks" and A. Gozycki will post using the school's facebook account once per week.

A socially distanced and partially virtual version of Grandparents Day was discussed. As Grandparents Day is a time-honored tradition and multi-generational fellowship and learning has shown to be beneficial to SA students, the committee brainstormed ideas on how to celebrate Grandparents Day while still adhering to COVID-19 guidelines. Ideas include:
-photo collages
-writing letters to grandparents
-a Skype or Zoom visit to the classroom from a grandparent.
Details will take shape in future meetings.

III. Recognition/Awards

A.

Discussion/Brainstorm

A school-wide, all-grade SEL recognition program will be rolled out next quarter. "Eagle Vision" awards will be a way for staff and teachers to recognize the efforts of students who strive toward the behaviors and goals of our Vision for our Graduates. Improved behavior and habits will be awarded with a certificate and/or trinket in school or mailed to virtual students or delivered electronically. Staff Committee representatives will communicate details of the program to staff.

IV. Closing Items

Adjourn Meeting

There being no further business to be transacted, and upon motion duly made, seconded and approved, the meeting was adjourned at 11:30 AM.

Respectfully Submitted,
S. Schroeck
