Approve Minutes from 3/4/20

Jessica Xiarhos made a motion to approve the minutes from March 4, 2020 Academic Excellence Committee Meeting on 03-04-20.
Michael Condon seconded the motion.

Accept Remote Participation

Jessica Xiarhos made a motion to In light of the ongoing COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, Governor Baker issued an emergency Order on March 12, 2020, allowing public bodies greater flexibility in utilizing technology in the conduct of meetings under the Open Meeting Law. This committee makes a motion to accept this Executive Order for this meeting of the Academic Excellence Committee, on April 1, 2020.
Ellen Lodgen seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED to approve the motion.

II. Academic Excellence Committee

A.

Dissemination of Academic Excellence to Staff - Update

Criteria for Excellence - Humanities document is coming all, Math document is further along.
    - don't want to put this document on the back burner 

Perceptions from the high school - very well prepared in science, math and humanities/ELA a weakness

Purpose of the document - maintaining high excellence for each teacher and content area. 
    -priority looking into the weak point

Questions for today:
    - What do we do if school continues to be closed for an extended amount of time?
    
Let's get a draft going with Jessica, Ellen, Matt, and Peter to move forward.
Meet at departments?


Protocol to go through with departments - what about the document resonates with you? 

Vision of the graduate - bring to the committee

IA - bring draft of math/science/ humanities to IA as exemplar 
Current situation an opportunity to reevaluate traditional grading.

Jessica will add the draft Math/Science and Humanities "Criteria for Excellence" to Board on Track and share with Committee members via GoogleDocs.
