Welcome and Information Session for Prospective New Trustees

Nichole Thompson welcomed prospective BOT candidates, Jessica Xiarhos, Victoria Kearney, Rick Doron, Becca Whidden and Rudi Herve to the meeting.  Committee members introduced themselves and Kay O'Dwyer gave an overview of Board responsibilities and expectations.  Each candidate introduced him/herself to the Committee and Committee members asked questions and engaged in discussion.  A brief overview of the candidates follows:
  • Jessica Xiarhos is a current MCCPS 6th grade math/science teacher.  She has a background in special education and is currently working towards her masters degree in curriculum and teaching in math and science, with a focus in STEM.
  • Victoria Kearney is a former MCCPS student who values the school and project based learning.  She has experience in marketing and grant writing.
  • Rick Doron is a parent of a current MCCPS 4th grader.  He has a background in finance, entrepreneurship, computer science and analysis and consulting and is a member of the Marblehead Finance Committee.
  • Becca Whidden is an architect who works for the MA School Building Authority on K-12 school design projects and has experience with OML.
  • Rudi Herve is a parent of a current 5th grader.  He has a background in operations and corporate strategy in the insurance and financial services industries and has been serving on the MCCPS Finance Committee for a little over a year.
Committee members spoke about personal Board experiences, diversity, challenges, expected time commitment and expectation of Committee service.  The prospective candidates asked questions.  Nichole Thompson thanked them for attending the meeting and they left.

After a short break, the Committee discussed the prospective candidates and decided to put forth five candidates for approval at the next BOT meeting.  Because Victoria Kearney just started a new job, it was decided that Nichole Thompson would contact her to gauge her interest level and revisit at a later meeting.
  1. Nichole Thompson made a motion to propose potential BOT candidate Peter Cheney for approval at the 5/28 Board meeting.  The motion carried (5 yes, 3 abstain because they weren't in attendance during Peter Cheney interview).
  2. Nichole Thompson made a motion to propose potential BOT candidate Becca Whidden for approval at the 5/28 Board meeting.  Paul Baker seconded the motion.  The motion carried.
  3. Nichole Thompson made a motion to propose potential BOT candidate Rick Doron for approval at the 5/28 Board meeting.  Chris Riegle seconded the motion.  The motion carried.
