Call the Meeting to Order

J. Brown called a meeting of the board of directors of MOXIE Public Schools to order on Friday Feb 20, 2026 at 1:04 PM.

Approve Minutes

M. Pouliot made a motion to approve the minutes from MOXIE PS Monthly Board Meeting on 01-16-26.
J. Perkins seconded the motion.
The board VOTED to approve the motion.

II. Operational Updates

A.

Facility

Took control of 123 Darling 3rd week of January.

Relationship with SRC (landlord) is good.

Met with PM construction supervisor. Contract being reviewed by Preti Flaherty. Seeking permits in March. Seeking finance options with experience with charter school funding. We have cash on hand but would like to retain liquidity. Project expected to take 6 weeks.

 

B.

Development

Charter School Growth Fund has an opportunity for additional investment. Beth submitted documents for due diligence today.

Charlie and Virgel will meet with CSGF next week. Funding is tied to enrollment - their goal for us is 90% enrolled by end of May.

 

Kennebec Savings Bank may be interested in philanthropic support.

Beth met with a charter school fundraising specialist to assist with applying to a federal charter school grant program for start-up schools.

Nonprofit Operations

Working on outsourcing HR and accounting support.

Student/Family Recruitment

40 applications so far. Target 130.

 

Most interest from families from Portland and South Portland. 

 

Charter School Commission approved adding 7th and 8th grades. Will help with recruiting families with multiple children.

 

Portland Multicultural Community Outreach Specialist working for Moxie in on contract basis.

Linking Roots is helping with reaching lower income communities through support agencies.

Ads are running with with Amjambo Africa, a news outlet for immigrants and host communities in Maine.

Running digital ads and bus ads.

Another open house coming on Feb. 28 1-3pm.

III. New Business

A.

Career Pathway Partner Cultivation

Families are excited about the notion of career pathways.

The Catalyze Challenge is a grant opportunity due Feb 27 to support this pathways concept.

Matt, Jessie, Beth, and Charlie, discussed contacts to partner with for the Catalyze Challenge.

Dan, Beth, and Charlie have continued to work on instructional design.
