Call the Meeting to Order

Barbara H. Scott called a meeting of the board of trustees of Bronx Charter School for the Arts to order on Saturday Jan 21, 2023 at 10:00 AM.

Approving Previous Board Meeting Minutes

Arlene Bascom made a motion to approve the minutes from Monthly Board Meeting on 11-15-22.
David Barnard seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

II. Reports

A.

Nominating Committee

Barbara H. Scott gave the Nominating Committee report. She announced that Loretta Cargill has been selected by the school's PA to serve as the Parent Representative of the Board.

 

 

Arlene Bascom made a motion to nominate Ms. Cargill as the Parent Representative of the Board.
Eric Osorio seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

Barbara also informed the Board that Sara Villagio submitted a written notification of resignation as of December 2022 due to an increase of work responsibilities, but plans to stay close to the school and will help when needed.

 

It was also shared by Barbara that Kathy Ortiz will become the permanent Executive Director of Bronx Arts as of July 1, 2023.

Interim Executive Director

Kathy Ortiz gave a data dashboard review with action steps, addressing enrollment, demographics, and teacher certification. She also discussed the recent i-Ready results for the elementary school.

C.

Finance

Melanie Hok gave the finance report update. She also shared the upcoming budget planning timeline.

D.

Development & Communications

Jasmin Abbatiello gave the development report and highlighted specific action steps that would help secure the annual fundraising goal. She went on to discuss partnerships recently secured with MoMa, Classical Theatre of Harlem, and GlobalArts, noting more details about programming and funding will be available in the future.

III. Other Business

NYS 2022 Open Meeting Law

Discussion ensued about the NYS 2022 Open Meeting Law.

There being no further business to be transacted, and upon motion duly made, seconded and approved, the meeting was adjourned at 12:05 PM.
