Mission:

The Mission of Brevard Academy is to prepare its students to achieve academic excellence through the Core Knowledge Sequence. Through a partnership involving students, teachers, and parents the school strives to create citizens with strong moral character and active intellectual inquiry.

Vision:

Brevard Academy: A Challenge Foundation Academy (BA-CFA) a K-8 public charter school develops and encourages motivated, intellectually curious students who are skilled in critical thinking, individual expression, and problem-solving. From their diverse backgrounds, students accept our challenge to pursue personal and academic excellence. Through this pursuit, they become confident members of their community who lead by serving others.

Call the Meeting to Order

Jamie Atkinson called a meeting of the board of directors of Brevard Academy to order on Sunday Oct 6, 2024 at 3:01 PM.

II. Hurricane Helene Topics

A.

School Plans

Ted Duncan presents the 3 week re-opening plan with the board. This plan has been shared with families and staff.

Oct 8-11: Optional attendance for students, 9am-noon, Mountain Roots will run afterschool care from noon-5pm.

Oct 14-17: attendance is encouraged for students but not required. students will go through a review of classwork, 10am-3pm. Mountain Roots will run after care from 3pm-5pm.

Oct 22-25: back to regular hours. no confirmed after school hours as of right now.

Uniforms are optional until further notice.

No busses until further notice.

Ted Duncan discusses questions that we are waiting on answers from for DPI, including the "DPI Hurricane Helene 2024 asks."

Ted Duncan shares several resources that are available to all Brevard Academy Community Members.

 

 

Paul Cooper made a motion to approve the school calendar as edited.
Jennifer Silva seconded the motion.

Board members asked clarifying questions on make up time and how the missed class time will impact learning outcomes.

The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

All staff members were paid regular hours through October 11th. There was a discussion on how to proceed to pay staff moving forward, specifically those who will not be able to return to school to teach.

 

Tyree Griffin made a motion to continue to pay staff regularly scheduled time through October 17th and starting on October 22nd, if staff cannot return to work, they must submit a special request form for approval.
Mark Franklin seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.
There being no further business to be transacted, and upon motion duly made, seconded and approved, the meeting was adjourned at 4:00 PM.
