Mission:

The Mission of Brevard Academy is to prepare its students to achieve academic excellence through the Core Knowledge Sequence. Through a partnership involving students, teachers, and parents the school strives to create citizens with strong moral character and active intellectual inquiry.

Vision:

Brevard Academy: A Challenge Foundation Academy (BA-CFA) a K-8 public charter school develops and encourages motivated, intellectually curious students who are skilled in critical thinking, individual expression, and problem-solving. From their diverse backgrounds, students accept our challenge to pursue personal and academic excellence. Through this pursuit, they become confident members of their community who lead by serving others.

Call the Meeting to Order

Ted Duncan called a meeting of the Facilities Committee of Brevard Academy to order on Thursday Jan 8, 2026 at 1:01 PM.

Approve Minutes

Jenny Light made a motion to approve the minutes from Facilities Committee Meeting on 12-04-25.
Trina Burns seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

D.

Approve Agenda

Jenny Light made a motion to Approve agenda.
Trina Burns seconded the motion.

Add in future building projects.

The committee VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

II. New Business

A.

Project Updates

  • Current Building Project Updates
    • JK will be installing ADA mats along the front of the building.  There is no cost to the school.
    • We are seeking approval to add 1 low-growing shrub) Dwarf Fothergilla and a Sweet Bay Magnolia to the front of the school.
  • FEMA Project Updates
    • K-2 Awning Project--This project is on track to be completed in February. 
    • Athletic Field--The athletic field is being sodded.  This should be completed by January 10, 2026.  We will need to remain off the hydroseeded areas until these areas germinate.
    • Guard Rail--The guard rail is in process in the factory.

B.

School Needs

Projects to be completed

  • Carpeting is being installed in Mr. Terry's Office.
  • We are getting quotes on window(s) for Mr. Terry's Office.

Playgrounds

  • Fitness Area
  • Walking Track around the field.
  • Relocation of 3-5 playgrounds.

Outdoor Education Areas

  • Reestablish the green barn as the Outdoor Education Learning Center.  Trina and Chad will review the items in the barn to see what we can gain space back.

Projects to remove:

  • The gym ventilation has built-in vents.  There is no need to install exterior ventilation.

III. Old Business

A.

USDA Update

We are still gathering bids for the new building.

B.

Master Site Plan Updates

Minor Improvements Needed

  • Concrete sidewalk from the far visitors' and removal of grass strip.
  • Security camera in the bus lot.

Major Improvements to Discuss

  • Mud Remediation
    • Art Room Corner
      • Pavers for a picnic area.
    • Middle School Entrance Options
      • Sidewalks or Paving
    • 3rd Grade Grass Area
      • JK Landscaping will be replacing the grass.

February 5 at 1:15 pm.
