Call the Meeting to Order

Nancy Cunningham called a meeting of the Academic Excellence Committee of Spokane International Academy to order on Thursday Oct 22, 2020 at 3:09 PM.

Approve Minutes

Nancy Cunningham made a motion to approve the minutes from no previous meeting.
Stacy Hill seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED to approve the motion.

II. Academic Excellence

A.

Develop Goals for 2020-21

School Specific:
  1. Mission and vision strategic planning team; working to develop goals related to the mission and how it impacts the academic program at SIA
  2. SIA to decide on whether or not we will pursue the IB World School designation by end of 2020-21 SY
  3. Growth goal: Special education and middle academy math proficiency and growth
  4. Global competence - How can we "formally" measure this? (International Night? portfolio? Spanish language acquisition)
Board Specific:
  1. Defining what we mean when we say "Academic Excellence" (Teaching, learning, school culture, data, etc.). What does this mean for our Charter Contract? (Compliance) What does this look like at the School Level? (Internally measured)
  2. Educating the board on what it means when we say "Inquiry based teaching and learning"
  3. Budgeting process - Ensuring an adequate amount of people, money and resources are available to run a rich program

There being no further business to be transacted, and upon motion duly made, seconded and approved, the meeting was adjourned at 4:12 PM.
