Winter Benchmark Data
Superintendent Harrison shared that we would be going over Winter Benchmark data with celebrations, highlights, and growth, but will also be digging deeper into numbers for Glacier Middle School and will also have the Foothills team share information on intervention work.
Assessment and Learning Director Amy Low presented information on Winter Benchmark data. The focus was on growth and highlights and celebrations were shared for the Early Learning Center and each elementary school. Fall to Winter growth by performance levels was shared as well as what the next steps, areas for growth and strengths were. Overall, students are doing great, and they will continue to refine what's working, such as maintaining strong math momentum while codifying best practices, increasing vertical coherence in reading comprehension instruction, strengthening Tier 1 comprehension strategy instruction across grades, and identifying & replicating practices from high-growth grade levels.
For Glacier Middle School, Student-to-Standard and Student-to-Student comparison data were shared. Celebrations for 7th and 8th-grade Reading and Math were also shared with the board. Next steps include continuing the work of unpacking standards and honing proficiency scales in Math and ELA, using target data to investigate researched strategies to strengthen student learning in the targets that are weak, and continuing whole-staff focus on deepening understanding of the need and impact of scaffolding up in teacher lessons.
Director of Equity and Achievement Jer Argo, Foothills Principal Jen Schutz & Assistant Principal Ryan Orphan shared information on RTI and Data Literacy for all tiers. The RTI goal is, "Get kids what they need when they need it." They went over the continuum of supports and enhancements, closing student gaps, and how they use student learning data to take action. Data isn't good or bad, it just is- it's what we do with the data that's important. They went over Aimsweb, understanding data, the misunderstandings of data and what it should be used for. They spoke of the work of their teachers, their commitment to the work and how every teacher is enhancing their instruction to meet individual student needs based on the data for their current students
