Secondary Unit Data

White River High School Principal, Cody Mothershead, presented math unit data for Algebra, Geometry and Algebra II.  He shared that they are working on instructional strategies, standards and what to prioritize.  They also have extension work for students who already understand the concepts and they are focused on how to get more students to a higher level of learning & knowledge.

Next Steps for Math include:

  • Making learning “more interesting”
  • Extensions in the unit plans
  • Priority 2 Goal with SIP
  • Geometry opportunity next year with 17 sections of Geometry
  • Geometry this year and Algebra II next year
  • Intervention and Retakes

Assistant Principals Molly Klemkow and Eric Spring, along with Teacher on Special Assignment Erica Richards, shared data on Glacier Middle School English Language Arts.    Erica shared about the professional development work that has been occurring with teachers, including proficiency scales, scaffolding, cross-disciplinary writing, and vertical work with elementary schools and high school. The impacts of this work have been clarity, rigor, and equity.   Eric and Molly shared unit data for each grade level.  They shared their goals and priorities.  They are reviewing what they are asking of students and connecting reading and writing more.  Molly shared that in essential classrooms she is proud of how the teachers are digging in to what is essential, what do students need to know to move on.  She also thanked Erica for her work - going into classrooms and walking through units, providing support for teachers.  Erica explained the depth of work in each unit, book projects, updates and focused interventions.  She also shared celebrations and successes and gave an update on the Writers Club at the school and how they work with the local library and local authors.

Elementary Unit Data

Teachers on Special Assignment Wendy Ward and Heidi Lee presented information on ELA and Math data for grades Kindergarten through 5th grade.  ELA comparison date from the previous school year was presented for grades K-2.  Strategies that support success and next steps were shared, including making connections and developing reasoning.  For grades 3-5, comparison data from the previous school year were also presented.  Insights to include strengths and strong instructional moves and next steps that included challenges and moving forward were shared.

They then shared data on Math Units 2 & 3 for grades Kindergarten to 5th grade.  Adjustments had been made on the assessment to align with strategies, and some assessments do not yet address the end-of-level rigor, but students are doing well.  Comparison and side-by-side data were shared, along with strategies supporting success, insights, and next steps.  They also gave insights into the bookshelf work they have been doing with each grade level.
