Attached is the Final Annual Financial Audit that was submitted to investors and the State Board for Charter Schools by the deadline. 

 

 
  B. Approve closing of member campus at 5757 N. Central Ave. (North Phoenix Baptist Church) Vote Angela Eich 5 m
   
Whereas: Empower College Prep (Charter Holder, Entity ID 91277) has a school, Empower College Prep Elementary School (Entity ID 91783), approved to serve grades K-8, and 
Whereas: Empower College Prep Elementary School has previously been included as a member campus when certain grades were operating at a different site (5757 N. Central Ave.), and
Whereas: Empower College Prep has completed its construction project and consolidated the elementary and middle school grades so that all grades K-12) operate on the same site (2411 W. Colter St.).

 

Therefore, let it be resolved that:
Empower College Prep Elementary School serves grades K-8 operating out of a single site, 2411 W. Colter St., Phoenix, AZ 85015, and is - in effect - closing its member campus.
 
  C. Approve updated mission statement 5 m
   
Whereas: Empower College Prep's original mission was stated:
Empower College Prep exists to empower its children to compete academically with students from any school in the country, possess an awareness of how their knowledge and skills are used in the world, and be driven by an instilled sense of responsibility to develop their skills in college in order to maximize their impact in the world. Empower College Prep will prioritize the partnership between the school, families, and the community to lead children to discover and develop their unique gifts, maximize their full human potential, and fulfill their responsibility to positively impact their world.   , and

 

Whereas: Empower College Prep has revised its mission through a previous strategic planning process and now uses the following phrase:
The mission of Empower College Prep is to empower scholars to succeed in college, solve real-world problems, and maximize their impact in the world. , and

 

Whereas: The school is required to submit a charter amendment to the Arizona State Board for Charter Schools whenever its mission changes.

 

Therefore, let it be resolved that:
Empower College Prep to submit a charter amendment updating its mission to be:
The mission of Empower College Prep is to empower scholars to succeed in college, solve real-world problems, and maximize their impact in the world.

 

 

 
  D. Approve Counseling Departent awarding up to 2 electives credits for work completed in high school Vote Brian Holman 10 m
   
Whereas: Empower College Prep's graduation requirements exceed the state graduation requirements in order to align with the Arizona Board of Regents requirements to enter a state university, and
Whereas: Some students, including a disproportionate number of English Learners and students with Special Needs, require multiple times to earn the additional credits required in Social Studies, Science, and Foreign Language (currently, only Spanish is offered and some students enter illiterate in English, Spanish, and their home language that is neither English nor Spanish), and
Whereas: Many students begin working in high school to support their families, and 
Whereas: A growing number of districts and charters are allowing elective credit to be awarded for working outside of the school day.

 

Therefore, let it be resolved that: 
Empower College Prep's Counseling Department be authorized to award up to 2 elective credits for work completed outside of the school day.
