The Executive Director and Senior Management Team will share updates about COVID-19, including alignment with executive orders and health benchmarks, previously discussed policies and procedures incorporated into the mitigation plan, student enrollment, and staffing. This time will also feature developments in the school's English Language Acquisition program.
III. Voting Items
  A. Approve Elementary School Scholar Handbook with additional policies related to COVID-19 attached separately (i.e. mitigation plan and face mask policies).

The Elementary School handbook does not have significant changes from last year. Families will receive communication about policies and procedures relative to COVID-19 as separate attachments to the handbook.
  B. Approve High School Scholar Handbook with additional policies related to COVID-19 attached separately (i.e. mitigation plan and face mask policies).

The High School handbook has minimal changes from last year. Families will receive communication about policies and procedures relative to COVID-19 as separate attachments to the handbook.

The changes made regarding awarding credit and graduation put in place in April have expired, and graduation requirements have returned to what was approved last year with the exception of having no requirement for community service.
  C. Approve FY21 Bus Contract

The school's management team has negotiated an agreeable contract that has been reviewed by the school's legal counsel. The Board will have the opportunity to approve the bus contract.
  D. Approve policy to drop students at beginning of year prior to 10 days of unexcused absences

Whereas, Arizona requires schools to drop students after 10 days of unexcused absences, and
Whereas, a large number of students may remain on waitlists at the beginning of the year waiting for students to be dropped so that space is available for them to enroll, and
Whereas, enrolling students from a waitlist prior to dropping students can lead to over-crowding in classrooms if these students return, and
Whereas, families do have extenuating circumstances that require them to miss the first days of the school year on occassion.

Therefore, let it be resolved that, Empower College Prep schools may, with the discretion and approval of the site administrator, drop students who have an unexcused absence on the first day of school.
