Public Comments

Sam Johnson provided a public comment via Zoom regarding his concerns on a staff member's online content and asked the Board of Directors to follow up on these concerns. Board Chair Mohamed thanked Mr. Johnson and instructed the WCPA Administration to follow-up on the public comment provided.

WCPA staff member, Ivan Ceballos, provided a public update via Zoom on the Robotics competition in Florida. He expressed his gratitude for the WCPA administrative support that made the event possible for the students.

Chief Business Officer, Mike Romero presented the WCPA Employee Bonuses pursuant to 2023-24 Operating Budget. The proposed 2023-24 WCPA Employee end-of-year bonuses, which range from 2-5% of base salary based on performance evaluations and are within the approved budget for both WCPA Delano and Lost Hills.

Chief Academic Officer Megan Palomo provided an End of Year Academic update, focusing on the WCPA Assessment Calendar, CA School Dashboard indicators, and graduation data for the Class of 2024 at both WCPA Delano and Lost Hills. She also celebrated 12 students who earned the Seal of Biliteracy and highlighted the 100% graduation rate for both campuses.

Executive Director of Programming and Partnerships, Lupe Sanchez presented the draft 2024-2025 Local Control and Accountability Plan for the Delano campus. The LCAP is updated annually over a three-year period. The 2023-2024 plan outlines the Academy’s goals, specific actions with associated expenditures, and metrics for measuring progress, addressing the needs of all students, including English learners, students with disabilities, foster and homeless youth, and low-income students for our Delano Campus.

Chief Business Officer, Mike Romero presented the 2024-2025 Operating Budget for Wonderful College Prep Academy (Delano). Enrollment is projected at 1,840 students with an ADA of 94%. WCPA Delano will receive an additional $1.1 million in ELOP funding for 2024-25, and LCFF COLA revenue increased by about 1.07%. Staff costs decreased by $2 million, benefits increased by 3%, and supplies and operations are expected to decrease by $1 million.

WCPA Lost Hills will receive an additional $540K in ELOP funding for 2024-25, and LCFF COLA revenue increased by about 1.07%. Staff costs decreased by $300K, benefits increased by 3%, and supplies and operations are expected to decrease by $400K.

For Wonderful College Prep Academy (Lost Hills), the EPA allocation of $6,502,570 will support teacher salaries and benefits.

EPA funds, distributed quarterly, cannot be used for administrative salaries or costs. For Wonderful College Prep Academy (Lost Hills), the EPA allocation of $102,460 will support teacher salaries and benefits.

Chief Business Officer Mike Romero presented the adoption of Resolution No. 2023/24-03. The resolution addresses the RFP for food services program staffing for the 2024-25 school year at Delano and Lost Hills. With only one proposal received, the RFP Review Committee recommends awarding the contract to Lyneer Staffing Solutions, LLC based on service, satisfaction, pricing, performance requirements, and suitability. The motion passed with the provision to further discuss rates with Lyneer.
