J. Lopez-Molina called a meeting of the board of trustees of Pharos Academy Charter School to order on Thursday Oct 17, 2024 at 6:42 PM.

III. PHACS Staff Presentation

PHACS Staff Presentation

Presenting Teacher : Samuel Bass 

Provided presentation  about the Pharos Academy Extracurricular Program 

30 clubs are currently created and actively operating. 

The goal is to elevate student leaders and empower personal growth. 

 

Club Program Goals: 

  1. Host 20 community events  presented by the clubs. Each club is working towards some larger community project. 
  2. By the end of the 2024 , we want 50% of student to be enrolled in a club.  This goal has almost been accomplished. 

Board Inquiries related to funding, challenges, donations and other club related activities.

Approve Minutes

J. Lopez-Molina made a motion to approve the minutes from Pharos Academy Charter School Board Meeting on 09-19-24.
T. Perez seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

Scholarship Reflection

Last month there was calibration regarding Scholarship surveys to be distributed 

Data will be available during the November and December months

Board Membership

Rob Granado has submitted his resignation so there is a need to fill a few vacancies 

 

New member is needed for the vacant position once carried by Rob Granado 

K. Shah made a motion to Elect Gustavo Garcia as the President of the Bronx Support Corporation.
T. Perez seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

V. Finance Committee Review

A.

Finance Committee Report

Finance committee met and Monday.  Auditors provided summary of audit.

Financials are doing well and investments are coming to maturity and will be reinvested as directed. 

Enrollment is trending a little lower than last year at 695.  School is still actively enrolling and planning for a possible budget adjustment.  

Marketing strategies are being implemented through mailings, billboard postings, Pre-K School visits.  

Board recommendations to increase marketing strategies via various social channels to get people engaged in our school.  

Increase teachers and students to attend and stay at the school. 

 

 

 

K. Shah made a motion to Approve the September 2024 Financials.
J. Lopez-Molina seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

VI. Executive Director's Report

A.

Executive Director's Report

Second month of the school year and in the 10th year there are no major issues in the school. 

School is getting into the swing of things.  November is coming up , Thanksgiving season and the first student lead conference. The parent-teacher conference turned around with the students leading the conference.  First 6-8 weeks of school with the first cycle of data anticipated in November 2024. 


Student-Lead conferences are for all grades from K-12.  The kids are presenting to the teachers and parents.  The first two cycles are student lead conferences which the leads to exhibitions for the high school and round tables for the elementary scholars.  

 

There are (2) major student lead conferences , followed by exhibitions and round table events.

J. Lopez-Molina made a motion to Delegate responsibilities to conduct the appeal hearing for the scholar matter : Tahina, Key , Jarod , Javier and Gustavo.
T. Perez seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

J. Lopez-Molina made a motion to Approve the Board Candidate, Vanessa Angeles as a new Board Member.
T. Perez seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

There being no further business to be transacted, and upon motion duly made, seconded and approved, the meeting was adjourned at 8:51 PM.
