Call the Meeting to Order

C. Russell called a meeting of the board of trustees of Pharos Academy Charter School to order on Thursday May 16, 2024 at 6:50 PM.

II. PHACS Staff Presentation

PHACS Staff Presentation

Camille Colgan teacher provided past background and current working experience at Pharos Academy Charter School. 

Subject of Teaching - Global in Action, Majority Scholars- Freshman  

 

 

 

III. Board Governance

Approve Minutes

B. Thompson made a motion to approve the minutes from Pharos Academy Charter School Board Meeting on 04-18-24.
P. Wesonga seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

Board Retreat

Discuss results of survey that was presented to the Board. 

Topics of interest were Board expansion and recruitment.

Retreat timing discussed - July 18 & September 19 were the highest rated dates. 

 

Agenda will be formatted for further review and discussion.

PHACS 2024 Board Scholarship

Scholarship Awarded to Seniors that stays with them throughout the college school years. 

 

Scholars applications will be present at the June 2024.

 

Review the process to confirm that the scholars awarded will need the funds.  Scholars who receive full scholarship, will they have a need for the funds awards from the Scholarship awarded by the Board. 

 

Review to change for the FY25 School Year. 

Board to consider special circumstances and grade requirements.  Changes can be discussed and presented in June 2024 for the FY25 School Year scholarship procedure.

Enrollment and Lottery prices discussed during the Finance Call.

No significant financial concerns and school is on track 

 

K. Shah made a motion to Approve April 2024 Financials.
T. Perez seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

V. FY25 Budget

FY25 Budget

FY25 Budget is currently still in progress. 

COVID funds are no longer distributed as of FY25. 

Comparison of current budget and wish list items. 

ESSER is going away but other grants have been applied for. 

 

 

VI. Executive Director's Report

Executive Director's Report

SAT scores reviewed with Board Members 

Goal to get many students over 1000.  Prep test services used to support preparation for the SAT, which will start in August (During the summer) and on Saturdays, once School starts. 

This prep activity is optional for students.  Excited with the scores that have been presented and school will be looking for the next set of scores in October 2024 with possibly results available in November 2024.  

 

 

VII. Academic Committee Report

Academic Committee Report

Spend time speaking about College and College Fair. 

Money spent going to College and repurposing those funds.

Exposure is great but a better way to bring College knowledge with less traveling. 

 

List of previous scholars college choices is available and can be presented to Board in the future. 

 

College tours are availabe for HBCU's , closest chosen are in Delaware.   

 

Scholarship items discussed , college and career department bringing in more scholarship funds for the scholars. Current focus is on the few top scholarships with the goal to expand this few to many more in the future years. 

 

Westpoint, ROTC and other colleges discusses as potential endeavors for future scholars.

No updates, all things are going well with Direct Clean - cleaning company.
