Call the Meeting to Order

J. Lopez-Molina called a meeting of the board of trustees of Pharos Academy Charter School to order on Thursday Jul 21, 2022 at 6:35 PM.

II. Board Governance

A.

Approve Minutes

J. Lopez-Molina made a motion to approve the minutes from Pharos Academy Charter School Board Meeting on 06-16-22.
B. Thompson seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

III. Finance Committee Review

A.

Finance Committee Report

Finance Report- All is looking well. No investment report until next month. 

4th Sector still wrapping up FY22 and will reconcile all the numbers.

No deficit and a small surplus is anticipated. 

Kate from MMB participated in the July Finance Call with a brief summary of audit activities.

Audit currently in progress and work will continue with Scholar, Finance files, HR Files and 401K files. 

 

J. Lopez-Molina made a motion to Approve the June 2022 Financials.
J. Sowell seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

COVID-19 Updates

COVID-19 - Nothing significant to report. Testing is still taking place at the school. 

Students are still required to wear mask and nothing major to report at this time. 

Weekly testing Impact Report was shared with the Board.

 

V. Culture Committee Report

A.

Culture Committee Report

No update at this time. 

Response to the Staff gift that was presented was discussed. 

Staff appreciated the generosity of the Board and School Leadership. 

Committee will consider changing the meeting time and will reach out to Principal Brown for support.

VI. Academic Committee Report

A.

Academic Committee Report

Principal Brown shared enrollment summary with the Board. 

Grade by grade wait list numbers shared with the greatest numbers in K, 6th, 9th Grades. 

Over enrollment considering the natural attrition that takes place within the school year. 

 

Waitlist Data Presented and Discussed: 
Grade Level entry testing not permitted - Lottery procedures

K-8 Enrollment seats scarcity mentioned 

Sibling enrollment process 

 

2022 Graduation Rate Date presented: 

Onetime - 64% June'22 , 19% August'22 - Totaling 83% OnTime Graduation Rate 

7% - January'23

10% - June'23 

 

Full Graduation Rate, ELA Testing and Graduation Follow up.

Full picture will be presented in August 2022 as data is being compiled and prepared for presentation. 

 

Aviation Program to be launched in September 2022.

Ground Hours will be made available for Scholars.

Parents will opt into additional flight over the weekend.

After School Program - FY23 (High School Students) 

 

Summer Energy Program (Partnership w/American Association of Blacks In Energy)

First HS Chapter - 6 Week Program learning about Energy and Sustainability - 2 Science Credits can be earned.

 

Summer Boost Program - Donors will be coming out to school in August 2022

 

VII. Facilities

A.

Facilities Update

Major activities reported related to the Fire Restoration at 1001 INTERVALE AVE.:

  1. Final stages in Fire Repair - 95% Complete
  2. Phones and internet work should be wrapped up within the next few weeks. 
  3. Reimbursement insurance funds are in process to support payment for the vendor related expenses related to the fire restoration.
