Modesto took us through a slide deck highlighting developments in Q1 of the school year.
- students re-enrolling to 10th grade after departing after LA. Talking to families in this situation will be an enrollment strategy employed going forward. LCAS has a waitlist for first time. Goal for 370 applications by summer and progress towards goal will be carefully monitored
- announced hiring of Jasmine Rosario as Dean of College and a teaching fellow- great energy and excitement around these hires
- IEP compliance is behind schedule, but new school psychologist is in place now to turn this around
-ELL supports and Suspensions bpth on track
-Attendance on track in LA but off track in UA- addressing with buy back days and daily response from staff, calling home
-Addressing ELA and Math goals, set to fit the specific group in each grade- ANET Q1 data is in. Solid improvement from last year to this year in LA. Good percentage is partially meeting ELA goals, but need to shift more to M+E. Likewise need to move more from NM into PM or above. Interventions in place for lower group. Writing will be a greater focus this year than last year. Celebrations happening for top end performers. Modesto acknowledges that there needs to be more growth at all levels, particularly 6th and 7th grade. Team will continue to build off successful interventions from last year.
-AS asked MM about celebrating teachers- MM acknowledged his scrappy group of dedicated faculty and noted that he wants to continue to find ways to celebrate faculty and staff.
