ED Report

Modesto reviewed recent developments at LACS. MCAS testing has wrapped up and school is trending positively, in line with growth in reading that teachers have witnessed and measured throughout the year. MCAS ELA scores indicated significant growth for LACS from the 2018-19 testing, the last full school year prior to the pandemic. LACS students are improving much more in line with statewide averages than they were in 2018-19.

The school community was back to mandated masking based on COVID numbers in Springfield. There was a spike in cases at school, but numbers have since reduced significantly.

Hiring is going well with just two teaching roles remaining to be filled. The school has added 20 new members to the team, with expansion occurring with another annual addition of students. Some new teachers will be working on their certification during the school year at LACS. As the Upper Academy expands to include 10th grade, there will be new offerings in Spanish and AP World History. The state also provides online asynchronous AP courses that some students will tap into.

Trends are looking good for an impressive finish to the year in regards to reading goals.

Attendance is meeting goals as the school year comes to an end

Goals for higher end GPA improved in the past month, with more students achieving at a high level as we reach the end of the year.
