Chief Academic Officer Brown updated the Board on the work of the Academic meeting. She shared the school's staffing framework and our key events for October. We are celebrating Hispanic Heritage month; Hispanic, Latino and/or Spanish speaking children represent roughly half of our students. Families attended a family event on October 15th which had over 100 families in attendance; students had a fair around Hispanic/Latin American culture with clothing, dancing, food and language. On Friday, we will have our keystone event with the Latin American festival, which includes food, music and other celebrations of culture.
October is also anti-bullying month. Today is National Unity Day, the school included a community based Unity rally. This included Unity dances, speakers on the topic and other celebrations of unity. These events tie into our project based learning framework to make learning engaging, fun and active on all levels. The high school featured Tango dancing from Argentine dancers and other events for Hispanic Heritage month.
