Governance will be continuing to discuss our school succession planning at its next meeting.

Vote on Trustee Terms
The Board discussed the benefits and drawbacks of staggering Trustee terms, to determine whether new Trustees would have a variable length of their Trustee term. The Board discussed the importance of having Trustees who are engaged and complete their terms when possible.

Finance Committee Update
CFO Lisa-Renee Brown discussed the enrollment frameworks for BSNBCS and BSNBCS2. Her office is managing the balances of the various accounts. BSNBCS's application for school foods was approved for the HS for Grade 9.
NYSED also notified BSNBCS that our ESSER ARP expenditures and reviews has been officially closed out. The school no longer has any ESSER related expenditures or compliance documentation required. The education corporation continues to manage its funds according to the fiscal framework developed by the Board.
BSNBCS2 will continue to pursue CSP funding, once a future round has been established.

There were no public comments.
Mr. Tishuk presented on the recent Back to school activities of the schools, including an ELL focused family event presented bilingually on Monday August 19th, 2024.
BSNBCS's Middle School Open House held today for Grades 6, 7, and 8. The Lower School House House (Grades 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5): Thursday, August 22, 3 PM - 4 PM is tomorrow.
The High School continues to recruit families and welcomes the opening of our first Freshman class, the Class of 2028.
For BSNBCS2, our Kindergarten student and family orientation is scheduled for this Friday at 8 AM. This marks the start of school for our Kindergarten students and their families. They have a day filled with lots of fun games to acclimate both the parent and child to their new school community.
As a part of the summer program for rising 9th graders, HS Principal Blough, rising 9th graders and high school staff attended the College of St. Thomas Aquinas, at the invitation Vice Chair Kevin Nesbitt, who serves at Vice President of Student Development at that institution. Our Chief Academic Officer Brown also visited and we continue to build a relationship with this institution of higher education. Students also visited Metropolitan College of New York and various internships BSNBCS looks forward to continuing its partnerships with other local colleges and universities.
Chair Victor Rivera has introduced the school to the author of 'Bodega Cats', Hilda Eunice Burgos, about growing up in New York City, we look forward to her author visit. Chair Victor requested that the Board remain apprised of the various activities and events at BSNBCS and BSNBCS2 so that they can support the athletic, cultural and academic work of our scholars.
CFO Lisa-Renee Brown discussed her leadership work at Brooklyn to Alaska, which provides opportunites to young women and young boys to explore the wilderness in Alaska.
