Call the Meeting to Order

Kevin Nesbitt called a meeting of the board of trustees of Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter Schools to order on Tuesday Aug 26, 2025 at 6:06 PM.

Chair Kevin Nesbitt recognized Trustee Joe Sciame, founding Trustee and Board Chair, and all Trustees wished him good health.

Approve July Meeting Minutes

Cecelia Russo made a motion to approve the minutes from Bedford Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter Schools Board Meeting on 07-31-25.
Vishal Gupta seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

II. Academic and Family Life Committee

Committee Update

Chair Cecelia Russo acknowledged the open house happening now at the High School.  Mr. Tishuk shared the latest academic data on NYS Assessments, which are the highest in the school's history.

III. Governance Committee

Committee Update

Vice Chair Shawn Carson updated the Board on Committee Chair Givens work and the need for trustees to use this year as an opportunity to re-commit the school and its growth. Mr. Carson will be taking lead on the Governance Committee while Chair Givens, in her absence.

There were no updates from the Development Committee.

V. Finance Committee

Finance Committee Update

Chief Operating Officer Michael Taylor presented the school's financial picture, including the projected and budgeted per pupil revenues for 2025-26. Between the two schools, 999 FTE students are projected for the upcoming school year and 228 FTE students with IEPs. There are no extraordinary expenses or revenues during the last month.

Public comments

Cecelia Russo asked Chief People Officer to update our Board on our Brooklyn to Alaska parternship. She updated the Board that three BSNBCS students participated in a two week wilderness practicum in Alaska for leadership opportunities and outdoor education.
