Call the Meeting to Order

V. Toke called a meeting of the board of directors of Aurum Preparatory Academy to order on Thursday May 26, 2022 at 6:10 PM.

Roll Call -- Establish Quorum

V. Hayes arrived at 6:16 PM.
J. Huddle arrived at 6:16 PM.

Approval of the Agenda

V. Hayes made a motion to approve the minutes from April Board Meeting on 04-28-22.
A. Kingsley seconded the motion.
The board VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

III. Information and Discussion

A.

Epicenter Reports and Discussion of Board Retreat

  • BOARD MEETING: 
    • Need to set date for board retreat
    • Getting board members recruited and onboarded
    • ED onboarding

Executive Director's Report

 

  • Goal Run-Down
    • Academic: Finished last round of MAP testing (so not sure yet on Goal 2)
    • Academic Goals: Overall our passage rate 80 % (goal was 75%)
    • Culture Goal Met: 75% of students proud to be at Aurum Prep
    • Attendance: Fallen short of 95% goal, we are now at 91%
    • Material request for allowance of online has been very significant
    • Student reading 10 books--fallen quite short (40-50% range) (Need to reassess)
  • Dashboard: 
    • Maintaining steady at 170 Students (90% attendance this month/91% for year). 
    • Next years recruitment 44 accepted offers out of 117 applications (37%/38% acceptance rate)
    • Recruitment--
      • Education for Change has started to connect with other schools/elementary schools such as Cox Academy, Learning Without Limits, Achieve
      • Priority for next year---prioritize becoming a feeder for these schools
    • Teaching Positions: 83% acceptance rate (returning) for everyone who has been offered a position...90% of those who have been offered...if we include those who have been extended an offer. 
    • Student Support Coordinator--Hired
    • Assistant Principal --Hired
    • Open Positions: 
      • 6th Grade ELA
      • 7th Grade ELA
    • Expulsion
      • Student has transitioned to distance learning solely (so does not formally count as a an explusion)...but not returning to campus. Independent study in distant learning format. Independent study contract signed. In consultation with YMC (our counsel)
    • First Annual Dance tomorrow 5:30 PM
    • Graduation Full Acts Friday, June 3rd. 3-6 PM--Guest Speaker Johnnie Huddle
    • New Hire--Rubia Lessie--Student Support Coordinator

Financial Update

  • No material changes to this years budget from April
  • Anticipating net income of 154,000 (next years budget anticipating 318,000)
  • Net balance--1.1 million for this year

IV. Action Items

A.

Review of the 2022 LCAP

  • 80.6% average passing right now
  • Math MAP
    • Should do a deeper dive in board retreat as to what this means
    • 6th grade--performing well in Math
  • Reading MAP
    • 6th grade--Underperforming in terms of English
  • Spring updates during Board Retreat

B.

Review of 2022 - 2023 Calendar

  • We'll need to review the calendar at the special meeting
  • Brief Overview: 
    • Three weeks summer school in July 
    • First day of school August 8th (half days on the first 4 days)...7/8th graders come Friday
    • Aug 15/16 --Orange days are testing days
    • 180 instructional days
    • We'll discuss further at board meeting
