Update on student/staff performance and well-being

Justin: It has been busy.  Since we have come back, staff have had 3 full days of PD.  School has been going pretty well for kids.  Picking back up on getting 8th grade HS applications in.  Way smoother of a transition back from the holidays than I anticipated.  Biggest issue is attendance.

Starting with 2 full days of PD helped staff to get back into the swing of things - they left feeling really strong, connected, supported and prepared.  Now we have to maintain the systems that were created. Feel like we are in an optimistic, hopeful place.

Attendance slowly increased over the first trimester, saw a dip in December.  We are now pretty low coming off the break.  Trying to figure out how we can get it back up and do everything else at the same time.  Started in 70's, got up to 80's.... back to the 70's.

Creighton - any incentives to increase attendance?

Swati - it is factored into who wins advisory for the week but that is it.  Any ideas would be welcome.

Can we do anything to help teachers make those calls?

Swati - recruitment update.  2 targeted mailers, bus ad, 3 different dance studios willing to advertise, interview tomorrow for recruitment manager, social media increase.  Looking to add spanish subtitles to videos for social media.  We are trying to get in front of kids instead of
32 applications right now (about 50% of what we normally have)

Any ideas for recruitment (like live chat on website to help people get involved)

Student Survey Response Analysis

Student Survey and Staff Surveys - staff already did a deep dive and analyzed the results.

For every delta, there was an outcome and action step.

We set 3 big goals for teachers:
  1. Gradebooks updated regularly with specific data (participation, formative assessment, etc.)
  2. Instructional Practice - common standard practices (do now's , assessments, etc.)
  3. Management of Advisory - that is how we are tracking student success
Advisors are tracking student progress and now are also working with their advisees during flex class

Action Steps/Support from Committee

Biggest need is student recruitment

Next month - we can talk about recruiting incoming 6th graders and outgoing 8th graders

also we will discuss this video if it feels relevant about trauma-informed practices  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iydalwamBtg

And here is a resource for further student survey questions from Panorama
