Q1 Student Data - Summary of findings so far

Trends that we are seeing so far:
  • attendance so far is in the 80%'s
  • trimester goal - 75% of kids would pass each class, failure rate of no greater than 25% in each class.  This has presented major challenges with school being virtual this year.  Work completion and output has not been happening.
  • We have been hustling to try and reach parents, open up gradebook in powerschool so they can see assignments
Bubble tracker is identifying students who are close to passing, and could pass with some intervention or increase in work.  Over the next 2 weeks, if you were going to move 1/3 of your failure rate/teacher.  The hope was to have individualized plans for each kid, but many teachers are copying/pasting

Creighton - are grades reflecting mastery/knowledge or work completion?  Is it possible to create 2 projects that could allow students to do something that would show mastery?

Maggie - seems like the weighting in powerschool might be really impacting the student failure rate.

Abby - have you asked students about why they are not turning in work?  You can create a ton of interventions, but if they are not addressing why students are not turning in work, you may end up in the same place.

Maggie - that may not be useful for the next 3 weeks.

Abby - the current plan seems to just represent compliance & completion, rather the mastery.  Can you deliver assessments that would indicate mastery that could eclipse some zeros?

B.

Data Dive - what does this data tell the Committee?

Finding 1: We need to hear from the kids.
Finding 2: We need alternative assignments for kids to show mastery
Finding 3: We need to keep working the current plans

Week Without Walls - can we have them do some authentic projects (something related to the election?)
pblworks.org - use some projects from the library

C.
