Updates on Reopening Plans
Several updates from DESE in the last few weeks have caused us to make a plan and now tweak that plan given new information this week.
Guidance from DESE yesterday was more concrete that the 3-6 feet guidance includes 3 feet as a realistic option if that is what is required to get all students who opt into returning to 5 days of school. Currently, that is about 50-60% of Veritas Prep students.
Two important dates of note:
- April 5th- all 5th graders (57%)
- April 26th - 6th, 7th, and 8th graders (about 50%)
This is when all students who are opting in will return in person. We will continue to offer strong remote instruction for students and families who are opting to stay remote for the remainder of the school year as well as continue to evaluate this years' implementation of tech tools and use this moment in time as an opportunity to name what we want to keep, stop, start in instruction in light of our multi-tier system of supports for all, some, and few students.
The team asked teachers for accommodations request, most were from non-student facing roles, and we were able to meet requests based on documented medical conditions of children or themselves and temporary accommodations for childcare.
The committee discussed some of the potential root causes of students and families opting out and thinking ahead to next year how to ensure as many students as possible can attend in person.
Vaccination is not a requirement for return to school.
Teach for America is going to host their site at our school this summer, which is an opportunity for our students to have additional supports and for our educators to still have a break.
The team will continue to plan for MCAS administration now that the timeline of administration has been delayed as well.
Also of note, students will not be required to wear uniforms upon return to in person learning.
