Call the Meeting to Order

R. Sela called a meeting of the Academic Achievement Committee of Veritas Preparatory Charter School to order on Thursday Jun 14, 2018 at 8:12 AM.

Approve May Minutes

M. Sweet made a motion to approve minutes from the Academic Achievement Committee Meeting on 05-10-18 with the change of Mr. Moody as attending remotely Academic Achievement Committee Meeting on 05-10-18.
R. Sela seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED unanimously to approve the motion.

II. Principal's Report

A.

Curriculum update

Ms. Baecher reported out on the role of content leads, a teacher leader position, in revising unit plans using a new template and working to develop their leadership skills to lead well-run team meetings. Ms. Baecher also reported out about changes to science and history standards. The school will use the new state history standards that have been released and content leads and the history department chair will help manage this change. The school will also begin to adopt the NGSS standards in science and content leads and the science department chair will help manage those school-wide curricular changes.

Update on preliminary MCAS data

Ms. Baecher reported on the timelines for when MCAS data will be released over the summer and how the content leads are using preliminary data to look for curriculum gaps and to inform revisions to the curriculum.

III. Update on New MA Accountability System

A.

Key Changes from the Past

Ms. Sela reviewed the new MA accountability indicators for schools that were released in March 2018. The key categories are achievement, student growth, English language proficiency, and absenteeism. There is a weighting of the lowest performing 50% of students and their growth will be weighted as half of the overall performance level for the school. 

IV. Review of Parent Survey Data

Comparison of Data to Last Year's Parent Survey

Ms. Maron reported out on parent survey data results of which 70% of parents responded. The data is rolled up by question and compared to last year when applicable. School leaders will use this data to inform priorities for next year.

Ms. Baecher shared an update on where we are with staffing for next year.
