Motion to change Libertas number of school days from 190 to 186.
Context below: During our first week of instruction this year, we had each grade level meet on a different day for Prep Academy. Our 4th grade started August 9th, 5th grade started August 10th, 6th grade started August 11th, and all grades met August 12th. This allowed us to introduce students to the Libertas way in a more intimate setting. This created a challenge with ADA reporting. We met with Michael Gold from LAUSD and Naomi Tamrat from ExED to discuss how to best remedy the situation. Their recommendation was to drop the instructional days instead of transitioning to track scheduling as long as this does not negatively affect the overall instructional minutes required by the state. This would be a change that would happen this year and would continue to be in effect in the future for the duration of the charter. We requested a change of 189 days as stated in our charter to 186 days and 72970 total instructional minutes. This change would still keep our total instructional minutes significantly higher than the state requirement (20,210 minutes to 18, 970 minutes). Dana Edlis approved this, but the board needs to officially approve it. |
