Benchmark #3 data

Dr. Tate reminded the board members of KIPP Memphis Academic Goals and that the goals set are double Annual Measurable Objectives (AMO) goals. Dr. Tate also noted that Benchmark 3 is a more comprehensive assessment.

  • ELA/English: all schools exceeded their double AMO goals on Benchmark 3
  • Math: KMCE and KMCH exceeded their double AMO goals on Benchmark 3, KMCM improved from Benchmark 2 by 17 percentage points
  • Science: KMCE and KMCM increased by 5 or more percentage points from Benchmark 2, but no schools met their double AMO goal in Science for Benchmark 3
  • Social Studies: KMCH exceeded their double AMO goal on Benchmark 3 and KMCM improved from Benchmark 2, but did not meet their double AMO goal

There was a question from board members about if the benchmark performance is an indicator of how students will perform on the state test and the relationship between the benchmark scores and TCAP/EOC performance last year.

Dr. Burt shared that last year, Benchmark 3 performance was somewhat similar to TCAP/EOC performance with some on the higher side and some of the lower side. Where it was higher, it was between 8 - 15 percentage points higher and where it was lower, it tended to be between 2 - 3 percentage points lower.

B.

PSAT 8/9 and ACT Spring Updates

March PSAT 8/9 (taken March 19th) and ACT (taken March 21st) results will be presented at the next board meeting as the results are not back yet for either of the assessments.

TCAP and End of Course assessments will take place April 15, 2024 - May 3, 2024.

C.

Enrollment Status and Projections Data

Chief Brooks shared enrollment trends for all schools and the region as a whole by reporting periods. Current enrollment at the end of period 6 was 1,047 for the region.

Projected budgeted enrollment and target enrollment number for the upcoming school year were also shared and discussed.

A comment related to the enrollment target enrollment number and suggested a focus on entry grades (Kindergarten, 6th grade, and 9th grade).

There was also discussion around what enrollment target is most sustainable for the schools and TISA funding related to enrollment.

D.

Preliminary Graduation Data

Chief Brooks shared that our Class of 2024 graduation target goal is 86%. The Schools team is currently working to identify the status of the seniors still noted on our cohort who are no longer enrolled with KIPP Memphis Collegiate High school.

E.

Dual Enrollment Data

KMPS has a total of 166 dual credit course enrollments, with the highest number of enrollments in the following (top 3):

  • Dual Credit Computer Science Foundations (55)
  • Dual Credit Pre-Calculus (26)
  • Dual Credit Speech & Communication (17)

F.

KIPP Forward Persistence and Match Data

Ms. Durham Persistence and Match Data compared to other KIPP Regions:

  • KIPP Memphis has 76% (29 of 38 students) of the Class of 2023 with completed benchmarks. This puts us at #4 in the KIPP region and we exceeded our goal of 70%.
  • KIPP Memphis is still working to get more students to submit their Fall semester transcripts. Only 25% (9 of 36) have submitted their transcripts to the KIPP Forward team. Next year, the team is looking to bring back gift card incentives to help get that percentage up.

Match Data: Transition Dashboard

Ms. Durham shared that Senior Decision Day will take place May 15, 2024 and they will share more details (time, etc.) once that is finalized.

KIPP Memphis is #2 across the KIPP Network with FAFSA completion. 90% of our senior class have completed FAFSA applications. The challenge with some of the remaining are parents who are not comfortable sharing the confidential information needed to finalize FAFSA.

The board inquired about FAFSA parent education. The team shared that they start in 9th grade with FAFSA nights and school tours sharing information about senior year requirements, including FAFSA for college applications. The KIPP Forward team also provides individual office hours to work with parents privately.

III. Committee Questions & Comments

A.

Committee Comments and Questions

The board discussed student performance and inquired about teacher retention.

  • KIPP Memphis came in 3rd place across the KIPP Region in K-2 MCLASS DIBELs. We have applied for the Summer Boost grant for K-8 and are confident we will be able to be awarded that grant and provide summer enrichment for our students.
  • Related to teacher retention, the Elementary is pretty much fully staffed for the 2024-25 school year; the middle school may have a few vacant positions; the high school will have the most changes.

IV. CEO Comments

A.

CEO Burt

Dr. Burt shared that for the 2024-25 school year, we shared with staff that there will be more time in the school day for professional development (regional and school), teacher wellness, and personal time once a week.
