Call the Meeting to Order

C. Green called a meeting of the Academic Excellence Committee of KIPP Memphis Public Schools to order on Tuesday May 2, 2023 at 4:33 PM.

Approve Minutes

D. Lyles-Wallace made a motion to approve the minutes from Academic Excellence Committee Meeting on 04-04-23.
S. Isabell seconded the motion.
The committee VOTED to approve the motion.

II. Academic Excellence Presentation

A.

Graduation Details and Senior Activities

Chief Brook presented an overview of the Senior Activities as follows:

  • Oscar Night - April 28, 2023 was 6-8pm
  • Decision Day:  May 1, 2023:  All seniors had the opportunity to announce where they were going to school or what they plan to do post- secondary.
    • Aria Springfield - Valedictorian and will be attending Alabama A&M
    • Tallia Boyland - Salutatorian and will be attending UT Martin
  • Prom:  May 6, 2023 from 7-11pm 
  • Senior Week:  May 8 - 12, 2023
    • Monday - Senior Retreat, Tuesday - Class War/Field Day, Wednesday - Senior Brunch, Thursday - Legacy Service Project, Friday - Riverboat Day Party
  • Graduation:  May 17, 2023  starting at 6 pm at the Renasant Convention Center

2023 - 2024 Academic Programming (NEW)

Chief Brooks presented an overview of the Academic Programming as follows:

  • KIPP received a $2 Million ISM Grant.  As a STEM Center of Excellence, KIPP Memphis Collegiate High School will greatly increase access to industry credentials. 
    • KIPP will establish three state of the art laboratories. 
      1. Engineering Lab
      2. 3D Printing/ Lecture
      3. Agricultural/Biotechnology Labs 
  • Program of Study starting with the 9th grade students:  Stem, Coding, and Mechatronics
  • 7th and 8th grade students will take a career interest inventory.
  • KIPP Memphis Industry Certification:  Credential, Program of Study, and Tier

New Courses 23-24

  • Collage Dance Collective- 8th and 9th grade students at KMCM and KMCH will receive Dance instruction (Approx 50 students ea school)
  • Boys and Girls Club- Pilot group of 8th graders from KMCM will travel to B&G once a week to work on Industry Certifications (Approx 25 8th students school)
  • Code Crew- 8th and 9th grade students at KMCM and KMCH will receive Coding instruction (Approx 50 students ea school)
  • Mechatronics- We have been able to hire a Mechatronics teacher for KMCH 9th grade students(Approx 50 9th grade students school)

KIPP Forward Highlights

Chief Brook presented an overview of KIPP Forward Match / Class of 2023 as follows:

  • Projected Matriculations
    • Total Number of KMCH Graduates | BA (4yr) | AA (2yr) | CTE | Military
    • Scholarship Awards were approximately $8,014,312.00.  The data is preliminary as seniors are still submitting scholarship offers.
  • Persistence Data for Class of 2021 and 2022
    • Currently Enrolled Colleges and Universities
    • Total Number of KMCH Graduates
    • College Persisting Alumni
    • College Withdrawn Alumni 
    • Never Attended College
