S. Isabell made a motion to approve the minutes from Academic Committee Meeting on 02-07-23.
H. Coleman seconded the motion.

Dr. Tate presented an overview of the Mock TCAP Data as follows:

PSAT Results 9th

Dr. Tate gave an overview of the PSAT Results for the 9th Grade:

  • Met Evidence of Reading and Writing | Math | Advanced Placement Potential
  • KMCH 9th Grade PSAT Categories Performance.

Question:

Committee Member Dawson:  How many students fall in the AP Potential?

Dr. Tate: 7 Students.  A total of 93 students took the assessment.

 

Committee Chair Green:  Are the teachers using the data?

Dr. Tate:  Yes.

Dual Enrollment Spring Courses


Bethel University: English Composition II: 6 students | Introduction to Sociology: 12 students

 

Tennessee State University:  Medical Terminology: 15 students  

   

FAFSA Submissions: 100% of FAFSA Eligible students in the Class of 2023 Successfully Submitted the FAFSA.

Committee Member Coleman:  Which grades are visiting the schools?

CEO Burt:  Only students that attend actual junior and senior seminar.

Portrait of a 3rd Grader

Dr. Tate gave an overview of the Student Promotion and Retention Law:

 

  • Students who score Approaching or Below on the ELA TCAP Assessment will need to take advantage of specific supports to be eligible to be promoted to 4th grade.

H.

Computer Science

Dr. Tate gave an overview of where we are with the Legislation Overview:

 

  • Chapter 979 of the Public Acts of 2022 (Computer Science Legislation) ensures that all public elementary, middle, and high school students have access to computer science (CS) coursework and resources and provides teachers with a no-cost route to earn a computer science additional endorsement and offers teachers and schools incentives to participate in high quality professional development in CS.

Committee Chair Green thanked Dr. Tate for stepping in for Chief Brooks and for being thorough in her responses to the committee questions.
