III. Committee Questions

A.

Questions presented from the Academic Committee.

Committee Member Palacio:  Has a bilingual mentor assistant been hired at the schools?

Chief Brooks:  No.  KMPS have relationships with Memphis Shelby Count School and as long as we give them ample notice, they will allow for one of their mentors on staff to come to KMPS events.

Committee Member Palacio:  Are the ESL teachers at KIPP also participating in the workshops and trainings.

Chief Brooks:  Yes.

Board Chair Davis:  If we are increasing population, it feels like it needs to become a priority, maybe to make sure KIPP has folks who speak Spanish?

Chief Brooks:  Yes.  We currently have someone at the Howell Campus but we do not currently have anyone at the Henry campus at this time.  We do need to do more of an investment there.

Board Chair Davis:  How are we now with enrollment numbers?

Chief Brooks:  KIPP Executive Team provide weekly updates.  We can provide that information to you because the numbers are going up everyday.

Board Chair Davis:  Would like if Chief Brooks would add the number of kids by each parentheses percentage.

Chief Brooks:  Will add the number of students going forward.
